Presenter Conor McGilligan has slammed Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani after he claimed the club couldn’t be relegated at the start of the season.

Last term, the Whites very nearly dropped out of the Premier League back down into the Championship and finished the campaign just one place above the bottom three.

Despite that close shave, the Leeds chairman gave an interview with The Athletic during the summer, stating that it would be ‘impossible’ to see his side caught up in a struggle next time around.

He said: “I don’t have any doubt that we’ll avoid a situation similar to last season. It’s impossible.”

However, after their first ten games of the new season, the Whites sit 16th in the league and are only out of the relegation zone thank to goal difference.

While discussing Radrizzani’s past comments on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan was far from pleased with the cocky nature of his club’s majority owner.

He said: “Hey, let’s not forget everyone, our chairman came out at the start of the season and said it’s impossible – impossible, he said – for Leeds to be in a relegation battle.

TIF thoughts on Andrea Radrizzani and Leeds…

Seeing as Leeds are already in a pretty perilous position- having failed to win even once in their last seven games – it’s fair to say Radrizzani has already been proven wrong with his claim.

What’s more, things could soon get worse as he may have to sack manager Jesse Marsch as pressure begins to mount on the American. If the manager does go, but the Whites don’t get it right with their replacement, the Championship could well be calling next season.

As alluded to by McGilligan, in that same interview, Radrizzani also said he has ‘a lot of confidence’ in the club’s strikers and backed Bamford and Gelhardt to shine. However, both are yet to score this term, so that looks like another bad call on his behalf.
