Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has tipped Ruben Amorim as a great option to become new manager at Aston Villa as rumours emerge linking him with the job.

Earlier this week, Steven Gerrard was sacked after just 11 months in charge of the Premier League club, leaving his former side 17th on the table with only nine points from 11 games.

Naturally, Villa are already on the lookout for his replacement and names such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have emerged as targets, but Sporting CP manager Amorim looks to be the most realistic of that lot at this stage (via The Athletic).

In reaction to this news, Pitt-Brooke seemed rather complimentary of the Portuguese and even dubbed him as ‘arguably the best young manager in Europe right now’.

Indeed, he said on Twitter: “Ruben Amorim would be a great choice. Arguably the best young manager in Europe right now?”

Prior to these current links with the Villa job, Pitt-Brooke had actually written an article about Amorim explaining how the 37-year-old had become one of the most exciting new managers in Europe.

Do you remember where Aston Villa made their signings from? Take our quiz to find out! First up, who did Frederic Guilbert turn out for immediately before moving to Villa Park?

The journalist detailed how the coach boss had delivered the title last season – Sporting’s first championship for 19 years. And noted that he had also already won three Tacas de Liga (the Portuguese equivalent of the League Cup) as a manager despite his young age.

Taking everything into account, it’s not hard to see why there is plenty of excitement over Amorim and if proven former Premier League coaches such as Pochettino and Tuchel are out of the equation, Villa could do well to be bold and go for this young and unproven (in English football at least) option instead.
