Leeds United are now expected to be boosted by the return of Pascal Struijk for their game on Sunday against Fulham at Elland Road.

This is according to the reliable Whites correspondent for The Athletic, Phil Hay, who has been speaking on his latest podcast about all things Leeds.

Pressure is now ramping up at Leeds on Jesse Marsch after his side were dealt a frustrating defeat on Thursday night against the Premier League’s – at the time – bottom side, Leicester City.

Defeat at the King Power Stadium has the Yorkshire club slumped in the relegation battle towards the bottom of the table with just three points separating them from Nottingham Forest who now sit rock bottom.

However, Hay believes Marsch has been handed an injury boost ahead of the game on Sunday with the Dutch defender expected to be fit enough to make a full return:

“Struijk, from what I’m told, is very likely to be fit for the weekend. I think 100% he comes back into the team I think he has to. But Struijk is not a left-back. You know, that is one area where the squad is incomplete.”

TIF Thoughts on Hay’s comments…

This will surely be music to the ears of the Leeds fans with Struijk having missed out on the trip to Leicester which saw Junior Firpo start at left-back.

Has Firpo now had enough chances at Leeds?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Firpo has not impressed the Elland Road faithful since he made the move last summer and is only able to boast two assists in his 29 appearances for the Yorkshire club (via Transfermarkt).

After the games, Firpo was handed a mere 5/10 rating for his performance on Thursday as his performance offered little to inspire when Leeds both attacked and defended.

Although Struijk has played a big role in what has been a poor start to Leeds’ season, perhaps not having Firpo playing on Sunday is the bigger bonus for those at Leeds.
