Leeds eye up move for Orta as he departs Boro

|

Victor Orta could join Leeds after leaving his role Middlesbrough’s recruitment chief, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims the Spaniard has agreed a severance deal with relegated Boro and “is in the running” to become the Elland Road club’s new technical director.

It is said the club and new owner Andrea Radrizzani have “sounded out” Orta about taking up the role at the Whites.

This comes after a previous Yorkshire Evening Post report claimed Orta had been placed on Radrizzani’s shortlist for the position.

Orta leaves the Riverside after just two seasons at the club, having joined in December 2015 as part of Aitor Karanka’s backroom staff.

The former journalist has worked behind the scenes at Sevilla and Zenit St Petersburg previously and, as well as fulfilling his role as head of recruitment at Middlesbrough, he led the club’s operations in Europe.

Radrizzani wants to employ a technical director to work alongside manager Garry Monk, who was offered a 12-month contract extension earlier this week, according to Sky Sports.

Monk took the reins at Elland Road last summer and transformed the side from one which finished 13th in the 2015/16 season, to one which almost finished in the top-six.

Leeds eventually finished seventh in this season’s Championship after a late season drop-off in form cost them a place in the play-offs.
