Alexandre Lacazette

According to reports from Sky Sports over the weekend, in-demand striker Alexandre Lacazette has signed a new contract at Lyon.

The 24 year-old produced incredible form for the Stade de Gerland outfit last season, with 27 goals in Ligue 1 seeing him claim the division’s Player of the Year award for 2014/15 and a second consecutive slot in the Team of the Year.

That’s generated plenty of interest in the France international; Arsenal and Liverpool were linked in June, whilst Manchester United have also been mooted as potential suitors following the sale of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce.

Rumours of a bid from one of his Premier League admirers escalated last week as reports claimed the Lyon hierarchy had issued Lacazette with an ultimatum following a spate of poor performances in pre-season; sign a new deal or prepare to be sold.

But french football expert Matt Spiro tweeted soon after that the 5 foot 9 attacker would pen new terms with Les Gones and that’s now been confirmed by Sky Sports.

Upon signing his four-year contract, Lacazette said; “People can stop talking [about me]. Now I hope we will only talk because I am scoring goals and winning games with Lyon.

“I let it be known my wish to stay at the club and to refuse any outside offer. The important thing for me was not whether I would extend my contract or not, but to stay at the club. I knew that I was going to stay here.”
