According to reports from The Metro yesterday afternoon, Manchester United have identified PSG star Ezequiel Lavezzi as their preferred alternative to Pedro, should they fail to sign the Barcelona man this summer.

The Argentina winger-forward boasts 32 goals in 136 appearances for the Parisians, helping fire them to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles since moving to Parc de Princes from Napoli in summer 2012.

But having become an increasingly peripheral figure last season and now into the final year of his contract, it’s believed PSG are prepared to sell the 30 year-old this summer.

Liverpool are long-term admirers of Lavezzi’s, with reports like this one from April frequent over the last few years.

But according to The Metro, it’s now Manchester United at the front of the queue to sign the former San Lorenzo man, should their fail in their pursuit of Barcelona star Pedro.

They’ve already agreed a fee for the three-time Champions League winner but his Nou Camp departure could be delayed until January, with Neymar set to miss the start of the season after contracting mumps.

Likewise, reports this morning claimed local rivals Manchester City will attempt to hijack United’s £22million bid within the next few days.

I wouldn’t go near Lavezzi to be honest, he’s wildly inconsistent.

Once in a blue moon he’s absolutely amazing but those games don’t come around very often. Admittedly he’s a fairly intelligent player and he works hard, but I don’t think he’s better than what they’ve got, plus he’s 30.
