Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United could be set to make a shock move for Dutch forward Memphis Depay.

It’s certainly no secret that the Hammers are in the market for a new striker, with Armando Broja previously said to be their number-one target this summer.

However, if a deal for the Chelsea man can’t get over the line, David Moyes could turn his attention towards Spain – and more specifically, Barcelona.

Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex stated that Depay could be a target, with the club holding a past interest in the attacker who is now supposedly available for £17m.

The insider said: “I don’t think we’ve made an offer yet, but we’ve certainly had interest in the past because I’ve reported it – Memphis Depay of Barcelona. He’s apparently available for £17m.

“Now obviously, he’s going to have loads of clubs after him and his agent said they turned down a lower-ranked English team recently. I don’t know if ‘lower-ranked’ would actually characterise West Ham because we were a top-half-of-the-table team and finished in the Europa League semi-finals.

“But it wouldn’t surprise me if other forward options like Broja don’t start to come into play soon, that we try and see what the deal is saying with Depay.”

TIF Thoughts on Memphis Depay and West Ham…

With over 150 career goals spread across his career for the likes of Barcelona, Lyon, Manchester United and PSV, there can be little doubting Depay’s quality.

This is why it might come as a shock to hear is potentially available for such a low fee.  However, injuries have impacted his time in La Liga so far, and with Barcelona now seemingly chasing Robert Lewandowski, the Netherlands international could be on his way out.

With Ex stating that West Ham had an interest in Depay previously, it will certainly be interesting to see if they care to reignite any sort of pursuit in the coming weeks. By the sounds of it, it could depend on how things go between them and Chelsea regarding Broja.
