Insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United are set to have transfer ‘talks’ about signing Josh Brownhill.

It seems as though the Hammers are in the market for a new midfielder this summer. Indeed, they have been linked with a move for John McGinn of late, while James Ward-Prowse is also one expensive option.

However, if the latest reporting is to be believed, West Ham may well chase the Burnley player who is seen as the ‘most realistic option’ due to his more affordable price tag.

While talking about transfers on The West Ham Way Patreon, Ex said that Brownhill is a target and he expects ‘talks’ with the Clarets to begin soon.

He said: “A lesser profiled midfielder that we also like is Josh Brownhill from Burnley. He is said to be available for £20m and could be the most realistic option at this stage.

“As mentioned on the podcast I expect us to have talks with Burnley regarding him”

TIF thoughts on Josh Brownhill and West Ham…

While Brownhill might not seem as though the most glamours transfer target available – after all, he did get relegated with Burnley last season – he is at least a ‘realistic option’.

Indeed, at £20m he would arrive as a much more sensible deal than the figure of £75m which has been touted by some regarding Ward-Prowse and a possible Southampton exit.

Despite his team’s obvious struggles in the Premier League last term, Brownhill still managed to offer a strong level of consistency across the campaign, averaging a SofaScore rating of 7.02 per league game.

Looking at that, and his affordable price tag, it’s not hard to see why David Moyes could end up pushing to sign the 26-year-old.
