Journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Clement Lenglet earlier on in the summer.

It certainly seems as though the Gunners are in the hunt for a new left-sided centre-back in the current transfer window with bids coming in for Lisandro Martinez (via The Athletic).

And it seems as though they have prioritised that Ajax man ahead of Lenglet who was supposedly offered to them by Barcelona not that long ago – if the latest claim is to be believed. And, he supposedly has a £259 million release clause too.

Indeed, while speaking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Taylor said that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus all had the chance to make a move for the defender.

He explained (35:12): “Lenglet has effectively been told by Barcelona he is free to find another club.

“And that saw him offered around to a number of clubs earlier in the window: including Spurs, Arsenal and Juventus.”

TIF thoughts on Clement Lenglet and Arsenal…

Taylor actually went on to say that Tottenham didn’t really ‘jump at the chance’ to sign Lenglet, but having seemingly missed out on key target Alessandro Bastoni, they have now look to have gone back in for the Barcelona man – who could soon arrive.

Arsenal, however, clearly did not feel the need to try and sign the Frenchman, with their priority being set on Martinez  – as evidenced by their multiple offers to sign him.

But with the Ajax defender also linked with Manchester United, it remains to be seen as to what Premier League club, if any, the centre-back joins. If the Gunners do miss out on their man though, perhaps they could end up regretting the chance to not sign Lenglet when he was offered.
