Dharmesh Sheth has made an interesting claim on the Transfer Talk show about Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong.

It is fast becoming the transfer saga of the summer as Man United continue to be linked and keen on a move for De Jong, only for the midfielder to thus far, be reportedly resistant against any such deal that would see him leave Spain.

This saga has also taken a further twist with Barcelona president Joan Laporta claiming that he had no intention of selling De Jong this summer, despite reports claiming a deal was close to being agreed between the two clubs.

Sheth believes that despite these comments, talks are indeed progressing on this deal.

(17:50) “Frenkie De Jong though that’s the big one, positive dialogue we’re told continues with Barcelona and that’s despite the Barcelona President Joan Laporta’s comments that he’s got no intention of letting Frenkie de Jong leave the club and that Frenkie de Jong is happy.

Will Man United be able to sign De Jong?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“I think Manchester United might look at that as Laporta’s way of maybe hurrying them up, or maybe even trying to do things on Barcelona’s terms, but as far as I’m aware of Manchester United are very relaxed about the situation.

“They’re comfortable with the broad agreement that they have with Barcelona, which is for an initial payment of €65 million plus performance-related add ons and there’s an optimism that this deal will get done.”

TIF Thoughts on Man United still chasing De Jong…

It’s no surprise why Man United are chasing De Jong given his pedigree in the game and the severe lack of options the Red Devils have in their midfield department, so much so, that Scott McTominay and Fred started a combined total of 52 league games last season.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

Another thing is that if a deal can be reached during Barcelona’s tough financial times allowing them to land someone such as De Jong for £55 million [€65 million] would surely be seen as a major coup for Man United and Ten Hag.
