Arsenal are currently ‘in the mix’ to possibly sign left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, it has been claimed.

It seems as though the Gunners are in the market for a new full-back this summer, with Lisandro Martinez and Aaron Hickey both linked to the club at times.

However, the Benfica man is the latest name to pop up in relation to the club’s hunt for a new defender – though it seems West Ham United also have their eyes on Grimaldo.

Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, noted insider ExWHUemployee stated that the left-back is of interest to both clubs ahead of a possible summer move.

He said: “Another name to keep an eye on – now, I think again, Arsenal are in the mix for him – but he’s a guy called Alex Grimaldo, who plays for Benfica – very highly rated left-back.

“We’ve [West Ham] looked at him in the past and we have been not tempted to make an offer because of competition, but Arsenal are apparently potentially going to go for him – worth keeping an eye on that deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Alejandro Grimaldo and Arsenal…

Now 26 years of age, the Spaniard came up through the Barcelona academy before making the switch to Benfica in 2016 (via Transfermarkt).

In Portugal, he has enjoyed great success, winning a number of domestic trophies – including the league on three occasions.

With all that in mind, it’s no shock to see why a couple of Premier League clubs could come snooping around for Grimaldo. And with Hickey set to join Brentford and Martinez heavily linked with Manchester United, Arsenal may have to reassess their options.

However, by the sounds of it, they could have to rival West Ham for the Benfica man’s signature, too. This one looks like it still has a fair way to go before anything is settled just yet.
