Leeds United fans on Twitter were discussing Whites goalkeeper Kiko Casilla after the Spaniard was left out of the squad to face Charlton Athletic on Wednesday evening.

Prior to kick-off, Leeds journalist Graham Smyth shared a post on his official Twitter page revealing that Casilla was “not involved at all” for Marcelo Bielsa side for their 4-0 victory at Elland Road.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

Illan Meslier and Kamil Miazek were the two goalkeepers involved in the matchday squad, as Casilla played no part in the warm-up, as per Smyth.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Leeds fans, who were quick to share their responses to Smyth’s post with their thoughts on the goalkeeper, who had recently returned from an eight-game ban for using racist language in the reverse fixture back in September.

Here’s a sample of Leeds fans responding to the post:

The 33-year-old, who is currently valued at £1.8 million according to Transfermarkt, signed to the Yorkshire club back in the 2019 January transfer window from Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Since then, the Spaniard has gone on to make 57 appearances for Leeds in which he has conceded 55 goals and keep 22 clean sheets along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Back in February, Casilla was handed an eight-match ban for racism during an incident that took place back in September 2019 against Charlton Athletic forward Jonathan Leko.

Will Kiko Casilla be a Leeds player next season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

After serving his ban, Casilla remained on the substitutes’ bench for Leeds’ 1-0 win over Barnsley before playing the full 90 minutes in their 3-1 weekend win over Derby County (per Transfermarkt).

Following Smyth relaying the team news on Wednesday night, this sparked a big reaction from many Leeds fans, who then assumed the Spaniard’s time at the club had come to an end.

It appears that these Leeds fans don’t see a future for Casilla at Elland Road anymore and think he won’t be a player for them next season in the Premier League.
