Liverpool club captain Jordan Henderson has been talking about Reds defender Joe Gomez.
This comes after an interview with the midfielder was recently featured on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to talk to Reds journalist Paul Gorst about the current season.
On the topic of Gomez, Henderson shared his thoughts on the defender and how he has fared for the team this season.
He said: “I think Joe [Gomez] has been brilliant the season as well. I remember when he first [came], he had a bad injury, and I’ve seen how hard he worked in the gym every single day for a long time.
“I just knew one day that, that hard work would pay off and you can see that it’s starting to pay off now really, you can see how good he is as a player, his physique, how good he is on the ball, how calm he is, aggressive, good at heading. He can do everything, really. I think being next to Virg [Van Dijk] has helped him but I’m sure Virgil will say that having Joe next to him has been really good as well. It’s been another brilliant season from Joe, continuing to grow all the time. Obviously, he can still improve and get better, but he’s had another fantastic season.”
23-year-old Gomez, who is currently valued at £30.15 million according to Transfermarkt, signed to the Merseyside club back in 2015 from Charlton Athletic for a fee of £4.41 million.
Since then, Gomez has gone on to make 108 appearances for the Reds (per Transfermarkt).
As Henderson mentioned in the interview with Gorst, Gomez suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in October 2015 that led to him missing 52 matches for Liverpool.
So far this season, Gomez’s performances in the 27 Premier League appearances he has made for Jurgen Klopp’s side has earned him a season rating of 6.77/10 (per WhoScored).
