A lot of Leeds United fans have rushed to a post from Phil Hay as he discusses the difference between the Whites this season and last.
The Athletic reporter has produced a piece with the help of Tom Worville.
The piece features a lot of statistical data but it is the stat about goals and XG that has grabbed the attention of these Leeds fans.
Hay’s tweet includes a comparison between Leeds’ XG and goals scored from last season to this, and it shows that last year the Whites had a lower XG (1.69) but scored 1.54 goals.
Do you think Leeds are better this season than last?
Yes
No
This season Leeds’ XG is up to 1.88, but their goals scored is down to 1.43.
This has drawn a reaction from many Leeds fans.
At the end of last season, even Marcelo Bielsa questioned whether his Leeds United side could improve any further.
Then they regrouped, refocused and found a way to get better. A piece with detailed analysis from @Worville.

More chances, even fewer goals. It’s a matter of how you measure success. On paper, we’re a greater threat. In reality, not so much.

Although the goals scored isn’t where everyone would want , MB and the Leeds team should be very very proud of the progress they have achieved and fantastic style of play … just wish we could secure MB long term .#mot

Doesn’t this show that the team are creating more chances because the xG is better but have become worse at finishing as the goals scored is even lower? ?

Come on! You can’t blame Bamford for everything. In this team, entire front 3 and at least one CM should have 10+ goals each.

@alexpindar just shows we can’t finish. And it’s getting worse. Hopefully Bamford is learning during lockdown

Fewer goals despite more chances created surely means our attack has gotten worse?

I think as a team we look like we’ve improved, but we’ve scored less goals?

shame about bamford!

I think we’ve been so much better to watch this year, not trying to force the ball as much.

What do we think?
This is an interesting piece from Hay and Worville, and this graph does show that the Whites are creating more chances this season, but we do think that it is a worry that they have scored fewer goals than last year.
However, whenever the league resumes, Leeds will be seven points clear of third with just nine games to go – so in the end, it might not matter that they have scored fewer goals than last season.
