Spurs fans have been discussing former midfielder Mousa Dembele after some footage of Jamie Redknapp talking about his departure emerged on Twitter.
The Spurs Web shared a video, which was originally shared by Football Daily, dating from January 2019, in which the former Liverpool midfielder discusses how it may have been a mistake to sell the Belgian midfielder. The former Fulham man made 249 appearances for the North London club, before making the move to Chinese side Guangzhou R & F in January of last year.
Redknapp says: “I have no sympathy, you’ve just sold one of the best midfielders in the league.” “I did not understand that Mousa Dembele move, financially it might be good but not for the team,” per The Spurs Web.

He couldn’t play two games in a row. That’s why he went to China. Now his retired.

Sadly, at that time he no longer was and admits himself he was struggling to train. That’s why a move to China, not a top league appealed.

He was past it but we never replaced him. Winks is not a replacement

He was finished. Sadly. The mistake was not buying a suitable replacement

He was not a winner and didn’t have that mentality/ desire to win. He had the ability in his prime but he was a loser. Plain and simple

He was well past his sell by date, suffered constant injuries and despite what people think was never gonna be what he was. We should have replaced him but if people honestly think he would be a mainstay now they are sadly deluded

These Spurs fans don’t seem to agree with Redknapp’s quotes and feel that Dembele was way past his best by the time he made the move to China.
What do we think?
Towards the end of his time at Spurs, Dembele was really struggling with injuries and considering he is now 32-years-old, it seems strange to suggest that he would still be a regular at the North London club if he hadn’t have made the move to China.
