Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which highlights David Prutton’s open letter to the club upon his departure in 2010.

Prutton, who also played for Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday among others in his career, made 72 appearances for Leeds, scoring four goals and providing five assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Upon his departure to Colchester United in 2010, the midfielder wrote an open letter to Leeds fans, stating:

“It has been one of the privileges of my life so far to have played for such a world-renowned, highly respected football club. The friendships I have made, the memories I hold dear and the sheer pleasure of being a Leeds player will stay with me for a long time.

“Leeds United gets under your skin (as I’m sure all you avid fans know) and there will be a part of me that will always be Leeds. I am proud to have played a part in bridging the gap between an uncertain past and no doubt a glorious future.”

He continued: “Leeds fans are loud, loyal and passionate. Make no mistake, you are the lifeblood of the club and you forever will be. You were fantastic to me and I hold that in my heart as I move on.”

In reaction to the post on Twitter, Leeds fans have flocked to the replies, with many stating their belief that, even though 10 years have passed, Prutton remains a Leeds fan.

One fan even suggested Sky will sack the former Leeds man, who is currently a pundit for Sky Sports. This could be down to the fact that Leeds fans haven’t had the best of relationships with Sky, having aimed chants at them in the past and Sky have also used technology to silence the fans on television.

What do we think?

Although Prutton played for Leeds at arguably their lowest point in recent history, following their relegation to League One and having 15 points deducted due to being placed in administration, it would appear that he is fondly remembered by Leeds fans as a player who always gave his all, and respected the shirt that he wore.
