New Leeds United signing Mateusz Bogusz has revealed that he will join in with first team training even though he is set to initially play for the Under-23s.

Speaking to the official website of his former club Ruch Chorzow, the Polish attacking midfielder explained that Leeds have a plan mapped out for his development after he agreed terms with them in a deal announced on Tuesday evening.

“I will be training and playing in the Under-23s team, but I was told that I will also participate in the first team’s activities,” Bogusz said. “The club’s plan is to prepare me for the constant presence and play in the first team during the first half-year. Everything depends on me, of course.”

Bogusz, who is predominantly a number 10 but can play in other midfield roles, has become Leeds’ second signing of the window after the capture of goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

OPINION

This is a fascinating interview with Bogusz, the 17-year-old who has left his homeland to start a new life in England and try and ignite his career at one of their elite clubs. He will join four other Leeds youth players at a foster family, and his settling-in process should certainly be aided by the presence of countrymen Mateusz Klich and, especially, fellow youngster Kamil Miazek. It is intriguing that Leeds regard Bogusz, who has been a regular for Ruch Chorzow this season in Poland’s third tier, scoring five goals from 20 matches, as a player capable of soon playing first-team football. He will initially start with the Under-23s, but will also be involved with first-team training. This clearly suggests Leeds have big plans for the youngster. Encouragingly, there is a clear pathway from youth to senior side at Elland Road and Marcelo Bielsa has immense faith in the rising stars capable of following his instructions and fitting into his team’s playing style.
