Celtic approached Paris St-Germain over borrowing the services of defender Colin Dagba but have failed in their attempts to sign him, according to RMC Sport.

The French outlet claim that Celtic along with Saint-Etienne both attempted to acquire the services of the 20-year-old right-back but in both cases PSG manager Thomas Tuchel refused to consider the possibility of letting the player go.

RMC Sport report that Dagba has only recently signed a new contract with PSG and that his recent lack of playing time is a result of a hamstring injury that saw him only return to training at the end of 2018.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic had the right idea as they need a right-back to arrive before the window shuts and Dagba could have been exactly what they’ve been lacking.

The right-sided flyer has only managed four appearances for PSG across all competitions this season and it seems injuries have really limited his chances.

However with PSG still in this season’s Champions League as well as competing on several other fronts for trophies, it seems Tuchel believes he can’t part company with a player who could be useful cover.

While Dagba may have been open to arriving at Celtic to get playing time potentially, there’s no point Brendan Rodger’s side continuing their pursuit given how little time is left in the window and the fact the response was quite clear.

Likely to happen?

No chance.

PSG’s stance on Dagba could not be any stronger if they tried and it seems clear that he is going nowhere in this window.

As RMC Sport’s report states Dagba will continue training with PSG and will no doubt be hoping to get back up to 100% fitness in order to get more chances to feature with them in the second half of the season.

Based on this report it would be very shocking to see Dagba rock up at Celtic even if their interest in him is very believable.
