Sky Sports journalist Adam Leventhal provided an update on Aston Villa’s pursuit of Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah in order to share that he understood the player would be going nowhere.

The reporter shared via his personal Twitter account that while Watford were concentrating on outgoings in the time that remained of the January transfer window, he didn’t expect Chalobah to secure a loan move away.

However Leventhal then posted a further update on the midfielder’s situation to suggest that a loan move to Villa was a deal to watch right until the deadline as it could be decided that the player getting playing time was the best case scenario.

“Concentrating on outgoings – don’t expect Nathaniel Chalobah to be going anywhere on loan. Aston Villa reportedly interested but my understanding is that he will not be going anywhere,” tweeted the reporter.

“..on the Chalobah situation – potential loan to Villa is one to watch until the deadline though, as it may be that a player getting game time rather than being on periphery proves best option for all parties. Let’s see what happens.”

OPINION

It’s hard to know what the chances of Chalobah arriving at Villa Park are now after Leventhal’s update. The journalist, who is regularly seen on Sky Sports News, appeared to shut the door on the possibility of the defensive midfielder getting a loan move away from Watford before suggesting a potential deal regarding him could go down to the wire. This update is only going to have Aston Villa supporters on the edge of their seats until the transfer window as officially shut as it seems Chalobah could move after all. The 24-year-old has only made 10 appearances this season for the Hornets and a loan move to Villa would clearly see him play more. Chalobah would be a fantastic signing for the Villans to make, and if they can reach an agreement it will be a huge boost for them. BBC journalist Simon Stone first reported on Twitter on Tuesday that the Villans were keen on the Watford midfielder, via his Twitter account  as he shared that were considering a loan move, so it’s understandable why this deal may not go through.
