Senior Leeds United pairĀ Kalvin Phillips and Kemar Roofe could quit after the club shelved new contract talks, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football news outlet reports on their website that the Whites have delayed talks with their senior stars, which include key duo Phillips and Roofe.

The report adds that the Championship outfit have told the representatives of the players that talks regarding contracts will not take place any time soon and that there has not been an indication as to when they will recommence.

OPINION

This is a very risky move to make by Leeds as a lot of their first team stars will no doubt attract, or have already attracted, interest from clubs in the Premier League. Players like Roofe and Phillips have been excellent this season and have been crucial to the success of the team so far this term, so it is almost certain that they have caught the attention of some other clubs. The fact that there has been no date given as to when talks will start again and this is rather worrying from a Leeds point of view. They risk losing some of their best players in the January transfer window, and if they do, it will be their own fault for not nailing down their contracts. Leeds will no doubt do all they can to keep stars like Roofe and Phillips at Elland Road in the New Year but that will not stop interest from flooding in. They need to stop shelving the talks and tie them down as soon as possible.
