Leeds United will assess Patrick Bamford this weekend after the striker suffered a knee injury while playing for the Under-23s v Bristol City, according to a reliable journalist.

Joe Urquhart, who writes for the Yorkshire Evening Post, claimed on his personal Twitter account after the game that the Whites intend to test the severity of Bamford’s in the coming days after he was subbed off in the first-half of the 5-0 win.

Urquhart added that the club were hopeful the injury was not a serious one, although the 6ft 1in ace [Transfermarkt] was in slight discomfort when he left the stadium.

OPINION

Leeds will have everything crossed as they attempt to work out the seriousness of Bamford’s injury. In truth, this is the worst case scenario for the club after allowing Bamford a run out for the development side on Friday. All they would have been hoping for is the striker to come through the match unscathed, and unfortunately that did not happen. Bamford seemed to suggest after the injury that it was his contact with the floor which caused the injury, and the problem may therefore be just some minor bruising. Any kind of ligament damage would be a big blow for both club and player, with Bamford looking sharp for the Under-23s before his injury. The signs do look to be good for a quick recovery, with Bamford able to leave the stadium unaided, but more will become clear in the next few days. Hopefully the scan comes up with nothing and the 25-year-old can return to first-team training very soon.
