Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva has revealed that he was experiencing discomfort in the groin area when featuring for Portugal in their game against Croatia on Thursday night.

The 24-year-old, whose current deal sees him earns £98,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), only played 45 minutes of his nations 1-1 draw with Croatia as he was subbed at the break.

Silva opted to explain the decision for him to be benched early in the match and revealed that he was feeling some discomfort and it was decided not to risk playing him in the second half.

“I came out at half-time because I have been having a little discomfort in the groin area, and with Mr. Fernando Santos we thought it was better not to risk the 2nd part,” said Silva, as quoted by the Record.

OPINION

The Portuguese winger has shone for Man City in the early stages of his 2018/19 campaign and Pep Guardiola will be hoping that player isn’t carrying an injury. Silva has featured in all four of his Premier League outings this season and scored on the opening day of the campaign against Arsenal to ensure his side secured a comfortable 2-0 win. Given the winger’s remarks it seems that his early substitution was an attempt to protect him from sustaining any further damage in case he was injured but as it stands he should be good to go upon returning from the international break. Silva doesn’t claim that he has sustained an injury just merely that he has some discomfort which he will no doubt get checked out shortly. It will probably amount to nothing but Man City fans will fear losing him to injury until it’s made crystal clear that he is raring to go.
