Scotland Under-21 manager Scot Gemmill has made a bold claim by saying that clubs will be queuing up to sign Everton striker Fraser Hornby.

Following the young ace’s exploits for his country on Thursday evening – which resulted in a hat-trick for the 18-year-old – Gemmill has commented on how clubs will be knocking on Everton’s door in order to take the attacker on loan.

Hornby helped his country wrap up a 3-0 win over their Andorra counterparts, and Gemmill said that he is starting to see a real talent emerge after his recent display.

“I’m delighted for Fraser. You can see a young player starting to emerge and he’s developing all the time. He’s got that physicality which is important but Fraser is not just about that,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s about intelligence, a willingness to do the work and the talent as well. In football today you need the full package but he is definitely on schedule.

“I’m thrilled he’s come home to play in Scotland in an important qualification match and done so well. I’m sure clubs are queuing up to take him on loan now.”

OPINION

It comes as no surprise that Hornby’s manager has made this claim about him, especially if he continues to maintain his current form. It would not be surprising if he made his first team debut for Everton any time soon, as Marco Silva could do with strengthening his attack in the absence of Richarlison. His display on Thursday means that he could be in line for a senior debut for Scotland, as he has shown that he is more than capable of being relied upon to deliver the goods for his country. However, it is important not to get too carried away when it comes to praising young players like Hornby, as they can crack under the pressure. Hopefully this does not happen with Hornby, and that he is able to progress at a steady pace for both club and country – which based on his recent performance, will not be difficult for him.
