Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has been on the end of a lot of criticism since taking charge of transfers at Elland Road.

The majority of fans are hopeful that he will turn a corner this summer and is able to put together squad capable of a top-six finish next season after seeing the Yorkshire giants fall backwards since he has taken control over the ins and outs.

However Orta will clearly not have learned from his mistakes if he was to sign the latest forward who has been linked with a move to Leeds.

According to Football Whispers, Werder Bremen forward Aron Johannsson is the most-likely player to arrive at Elland Road next.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 3.6 out of 5 that the USA international will be the next signing for Leeds – and that would be a massive blunder by Orta.

German news outlet DeichStube has reported in the past that Leeds were priced out of signing the injury-prone 27-year-old last year before the club eventually got Hamburg forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga on loan instead.

Lasogga’s loan spell at Elland Road started well but eventually it became clear that he was simply not up to scratch for the money spent on his wages and Paul Heckingbottom eventually axed him.

If Leeds want to really replace Chris Wood they need someone with a proven goalscoring record – which is something that Johannsson doesn’t have.

The American has had a really bad times with injuries in the last few years and this season he scored just two goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.

That kind of record, regardless of division, means that he should be crossed off any shortlist that Leeds may have.

The Whites really won’t have learned from their mistake of signing Lasogga if they do snap up Johannsson and they must only pursue strikers who are in good health and in a rich vein of form.
