Leeds must sign Birmingham defender Grounds

Leeds United are certainly in need of a revamp this summer after a disappointing Championship season saw them fail to finish anywhere near the play-off spots.

One of the main areas of the squad that needs bolstering in the summer is the defence and director of football Victor Orta should be looking at a new left-back with Laurens De Bock failing to pull up any trees since arriving in January.

Tom Pearce has done a solid job since he was handed a first team role towards the end of the campaign, but with his contract set to expire in a matter of weeks, it is worth Orta and Paul Heckingbottom’s time to keep an eye out for a replacement left-back.

Leeds must definitely be looking at Birmingham City left-back Jonathan Grounds if that’s the case after it was reported that Garry Monk had placed the former Oldham star on the transfer list.

Reliable Birmingham fansite BCFC Followers has claimed that Grounds, 30, has been listed as being up for sale in the summer transfer window despite the defender playing a key role at St Andrew’s over the season.

He made 30 appearances across all competitions for Blues and played a major role in their patch of good form in January that eventually proved pivotal in their bid for safety.

Leeds could really do with someone as experienced in the Championship as Grounds and with him up for sale, they should be able to seal a swoop in the coming months without having to spend to much cash on the player who is unwanted by ex-Whites boss Monk.
