Leeds United are primed to sack manager Paul Heckingbottom, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that the Whites are set to dismiss the senior man and are currently lining up a shortlist of possible replacements.

It is understood that the 40-year-old is set for the exit doors at Elland Road and the Yorkshire giants are deliberating whether to get rid now, or wait until the end of the season.

Leeds slipped to a 3-1 away defeat at the hands of Preston on Tuesday night and subsequently have dropped to 14th in the Championship table.

They have just four league games remaining now, but most supporters already have one eye on next campaign.

Heckingbottom’s position at Leeds is reportedly hanging by a threat despite him only joining in February.

The English manager has won just two of his 12 matches in charge, which has seen all promotion hopes slide away.

OPINION

Heckingbottom has certainly failed to make a serious impact at Leeds since his appointment mid-season and it would not come as the biggest surprise to see him depart. He has been unable to get an instant reaction from the team, but you do have to feel sorry for him as injuries have meant his squad has been depleted at times. If the board feel that Heckingbottom is not the man to take Leeds forward, then bringing in a new man for the final games of the season could be useful to assess the players. Mick McCarthy is one possible option that springs to mind and it would be good to bring in a man that has a wealth of experience.
