Tottenham are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Spurs and London rivals West Ham are both keen on moves for the 24-year-old in the summer.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is an admirer of the Portugal international, while he has previously been target by the Hammers.

The report details that the central midfielder is open to a first taste of the Premier League after a difficult spell at Camp Not.

Gomes is a technically gifted player, but has very much played second fiddle at Spanish giants Barcelona and his career has stalled somewhat since he left Valencia in 2016.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs should want to continue strengthening their squad in the summer and adding an extra midfield option would be useful.

Gomes has not enjoyed the best of times for Barcelona, but he is an excellent passer of the footballer and switching over to England could be the making of him.

He has managed 30 appearances across all competitions this term and his composure in possession makes him standout.

Likely to happen?

Gomes is understandably attracting English attention given his lack of game time, but he is still under contract with Barcelona until 2021 and the Spanish heavyweights could easily block any approach.
