Leeds United have emphatically decided that they will not be recalling right-back Lewie Coyle from his loan deal at Fleetwood, according to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that Coyle, 22, is due to remain at the League One squad until the summer after Leeds failed to terminate his loan, even though Luke Ayling is out injured for the rest of the season.

Coyle has been in top form at Highbury Stadium, making 30 appearances in all competitions this term, supplying five assists in the process.

Although naturally a right-back, Coyle has been used as a winger for the vast majority of his games for Fleetwood.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen has previously revealed that he would hold talks with director of football Victor Orta about potentially bringing the right-sided flyer back to Elland Road, but their decision appears to be that they will not be recalling him.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds fans really want to see Coyle back at Elland Road after showing a great amount of potential at Fleetwood. The defender is constantly winning man of the match awards in League One and with Leeds’ injury and suspension crisis, Christiansen needs as many bodies in his squad as possible. Vurnon Anita has been a poor signing and Ayling is out for the summer, meaning that if Gaetano Berardi or left-back Laurens De Bock were to get injured or suspended too then there could be a real problem for United.

Likely to happen?

It seems pretty emphatic that Coyle will not be returning to Elland Road. It’s not going to be a popular move among the fans but it will be at Fleetwood, who will continue to strengthen their promotion bid to the Championship with the in-form flyer in their side.
