Leeds United raced out of the Championship starting blocks like they wanted to sew up a play-off spot before we had turned on our central heating.
Thomas Christiansen’s side were red hot in the early weeks as they scored handfuls of goals, kept it tight at the back and racked up points while playing an expansive style of play that was a massive upgrade on the one-dimensional style under Garry Monk.
But three consecutive away defeats have cooled expectations, brought a reality check and a recognition among the fan base that reaching the magic 80-point mark for the campaign will be as fiendishly difficult as ever.
The microscope has been centred on the players and how their standards have slipped as the carpet has been pulled from under the team.
Leeds recruited 16 new players this summer, some of whom have been given plenty of chance to impress while others have had to be patient and bide their time.
They have allied with the 2016-17 mainstays, some of whom began the season on fire as they took their games to new heights.
