David Ginola has urged his former club Tottenham to re-sign Gareth Bale and take the final step to becoming a powerhouse of European football.

Bale, 28, quit Spurs in 2013 to join Real Madrid for a then-world record £86million and has won three Champions League crowns as well as the Spanish league.

There has been speculation that the dazzling attacker could return to the Premier League and, intriguingly, leaked documents have showed that Tottenham have a first option to re-sign him that runs until 2019.

Former White Hart Lane favourite Ginola has suggested that Spurs will be unstoppable if they re-sign Bale and unite him with superstar duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

“Why not bring Bale back to Tottenham?” said Ginola on TalkSport, as shown on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast’s official Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

“Keep Harry Kane and Dele Alli and bring in a new era for Spurs. I’m talking about in the five or 10 years coming, they will be brilliant.

“Why not make Tottenham the best team in Europe?”

Bale has begun the season in fine form, scoring three goals and supplying four assists in nine appearances across all competitions.

However he has not featured in the last two La Liga fixtures through injury and pulled out of the Wales squad for their two World Cup qualifiers this week with the latest in a series of muscle injuries.

OPINION

Ginola is correct. A fit and firing Bale would add a stunning new dimension to a young and vibrant Tottenham side that has become one of the most watchable in Europe. Injuries have stopped the Welshman taking the steps that would have catapulted him into the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Ballon D’Or-chasing category, but he firmly belongs in the elite of the world’s top 10 players. Bale had begun the new campaign in fine fettle, although his figures are hardly Kane or Ronaldo-esque numbers. Nevertheless, the former Spurs is a brilliant player to watch when in full cry and has the pace, dynamism and ball-carrying ability that none of their current players can match. He would be a sensational signing.
