Leeds best possible XI against Sheffield Wednesday

|

Goalkeeper and defence

Felix Wiedwald (Goalkeeper) – Has had the unwelcome feeling of frequently picking the ball out of the net in the last two matches, with five goals conceded, as opponents put more pressure on his goal. But the German looks the part and deserves to be the undisputed number one at Elland Road.

Luke Ayling (Right-back) – Mr Consistent had a rare off night against Cardiff and Leeds fans will be expecting normal service to be resumed.

Matthew Pennington (Centre-back) – Conor Shaughnessy has demonstrated great promise this season but the on-loan Everton defender looked calm and composed in the second half against Cardiff and has the pedigree to make it tough for suspended skipper Cooper to secure a recall.

Pontus Jansson (Centre-back) – The Leeds talisman was unable to prevent Cardiff dominating in both penalty boxes but he will be key to Leeds subjugating Wednesday’s attack.

Vurnon Anita (Left-back) – The former Newcastle man did not even make the bench in midweek but it was no coincidence that Leeds were less than comfortable without his battle-hardened experience. Gaetano Berardi is a fans favourite but he does not have Anita’s quality and the former Newcastle man must return.
