Chris Sutton said that he doesn’t believe Rangers have improved under new manager Pedro Caixinha.

The Rangers manager has come under intense pressure since the 2-0 defeat to rivals Celtic last weekend and reports of a big bust-up in the Rangers dressing room on Monday.

It’s led to speculation that he could be sacked, with pundits like Charlie Nicholas saying he could leave his post as soon as Friday night.

“Caixinha’s time as Rangers manager is coming to an end,” Nicholas wrote in his Express column. “There is absolutely no question about that.

“It could be after the game at Hamilton tonight or in two months, but there is no doubt we are counting down the days.”

Talking on TalkSPORT, as quoted by the Daily Record Ally McCoist gave Caixinha some respite, saying it was too soon to say whether the Portuguese manager is on borrowed time.

“I believe there is an improvement in Rangers this season,” McCoist said. “But what’s going against them is that Brendan has improved Celtic.”

Chris Sutton responded to McCoist’s article on his personal Twitter account, aiming a huge dig at Caixinha.

Caixinha spent close to £9million over the summer but Sutton said that the team hasn’t improved.

OPINION

McCoist might be right about one thing – it’s early days for Pedro Caixinha. But things aren’t looking good. Rangers’ title campaign is already in tatters and Celtic seem to be getting better and better. Their 3-0 Champions League win at Anderlecht means they’re likely to be playing European football of some sort after Christmas. Meanwhile, Rangers are eight points behind Celtic in the league and it appears that there’s a civil war going on behind the scenes. The report of the Monday bust-up and Kenny Miller being banished from the squad ahead of the Hamilton game, suggest that Caixinha is losing control. And if he is, the club will move swiftly to replace him. As for matters on the pitch, it’s hard to disagree with Sutton’s summation. Caixinha spent a lot of money over the summer and doesn’t seem to have changed anything and squaring off against Scott Brown on Saturday was just plain stupid.
