Pontus Jansson has hailed the impact made by two of Leeds United’s headline summer signings Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Samuel Saiz.

United talisman Jansson hailed striker Lasogga and playmaker Saiz as “two of our best” as he explained the strength in depth in the squad.

The duo were both omitted from the Leeds team that lost 3-1 to Cardiff City in midweek as manager Thomas Christiansen made five changes to the side that defeated Ipswich Town last weekend.

Jansson explained it was part of a rotation of players aimed at keeping them in prime condition for the course of the campaign, which pits the Yorkshire giants against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday.

“Thomas tries to keep the players fresh,” Jansson said at Leeds’ weekly media briefing, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of journalist Mark Wilson. “Pierre and Sami have been two of our best and were both on bench on Tuesday.”

OPINION

Jansson is right. Lasogga and Saiz have both showed since their summer arrivals that they are class acts who will be instrumental in Leeds’ bid to end their 13-year Premier League absence. Lasogga is a classic line-leader who is built for the physicality of Championship football and comes alive in the penalty box. Saiz is the Spanish maestro who makes the team tick and is capable of moments of jaw-dropping skill. Leeds fans have already had a lot of fun watching the pair, who are almost certain to be recalled against Wednesday at the weekend.
