Leeds United are in advanced talks with Burnley over the transfer of Charlie Taylor, according to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

The regional newspaper claim the Premier League club are working on a deal to sign Taylor, who is out of contract at Elland Road at the end of this month.

The Lancashire Evening Telegraph report that Taylor is keen to move to Turf Moor and is close to agreeing personal terms with Sean Dyche’s side.

It is said that the two clubs are still some way apart on agreeing a fee for Taylor, with Burnley reluctant for the deal to go to a tribunal.

Leeds are confident of securing over £5million for the 23-year-old via that route.

It is the second Leeds transfer that is currently advanced, as it was reported by the Yorkhire Evening Post earlier on Thursday that the Championship club have agreed to sign midfielder Mateusz Klich from FC Twente for around £1.5million.

Taylor is a free agent from 1 July, but because he’s under 24 and a product of the Elland Road academy, Leeds are entitled to compensation from any club that signs him, with the fee to be decided by a tribunal if an an agreement cannot be reached.

It is said that Leeds offered a two-year contract to Taylor last month but that is the requirement if they are entitled to receive development costs and he is expected to reject it with a view to sign for a top-flight club.

Burnley’s strong interest in Taylor comes after West Brom had held extensive talks on signing him but reports from the Midlands suggests they have pulled the plug on signing the Leeds 2015-16 player of the year.

It emerged on Wednesday that Leeds are working on a deal to sign Dutch left-back Ard van Peppen a contract as they step up plans to replace Taylor.
