Club legend Teddy Sheringham believes Tottenham ace Dele Alli has “very quickly” grasped what he “can” and “can’t do” on the football field.

Former Manchester United treble winning striker, Sherringham, played at White Hart Lane in the mid 90’s and then a second spell in the early noughties.

Sherringham was full of praise for Spurs’ talented midfielder, who recently won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards for his outstanding displays.

Alli, who was signed up by Mauricio Pochettino during the summer of 2015, scored 18 Premier League goals in the middle of the park for Spurs last term.

His performances over the past two seasons have seen him draw huge plaudits from his supporters, manager, teammates and ex-players.

Sherringham, who also represented West Ham during his playing days, was another ex-striker who was blown away with what the 21-year-old has been producing.

“For someone still so young, he’s been very good,” Sheringham told the club’s official website. “A lot of people forget what it was like to be 21. I know from my point of view, I was still learning my trade and trying to understand what I could and couldn’t do on a football pitch at that age.

“He’s doing that, but he’s doing it at the top level and producing outstanding results week in, week out, so for me, he can only get better.

“I think the next four or five years will be outstanding years for Dele because he’s really grasped what he can and can’t do very quickly and he’s performing regularly.”

Alli began his playing career at League One side MK Dons where he scored 24 goals and supplied 15 assists in 88 matches for the club.

He has since gone on to play 96 games for Spurs, finding the back of the net on 32 occasions and providing 24 assists to his teammates.

Ahead of the forthcoming Premier League campaign, Tottenham will be entering the Champions League for the second season running and Alli will be hoping to make his mark on Europe’s biggest club competition.
