Chris Wood has stated that Leeds’ new manager Thomas Christiansen is a “great” and “exciting” appointment for the Championship side.

The club announced on their official website on Thursday that 44-year-old Christiansen has agreed to become their new head coach after joining from APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus.

Christiansen replaces Garry Monk in the Elland Road dugout after he abruptly quit his managerial role last month and has subsequently joined recently relegated Premier League side Middlesbrough.

New Zealand International Wood was the Championships top scorer during the 2016/17 season when the target man found the back of the net on 27 occasions.

After the club announced their new appointment, this is what Wood had to say about his new manager, who he is clearly looking forward to working with.

“It was a great season last season, both personally and for the team. We put Leeds back on the map, which was a great thing for the club,” said Wood, as quoted by Sky Sports in their transfer blog on Friday morning at (11: 45am).

“We’ve done fantastically well as a team and as a unit. It’s a great appointment of the new manager, an exciting new manager who did well last season. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can offer in pre-season and we go from there.”

During his sole season in charge at APOEL, Christiansen guided his team to the Cypriot First Divison title and to the Europa League last 16 stage.

The former Spain international will now be tasked with helping Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League after they missed out on the play-offs by five points under Monk last term.

Striker Wood will be a key player for the Yorkshire outfit if they are to end their 13-year drought from the top-flight of English football.
