Leeds United will complete the permanent signing of Pontus Jansson after overcoming the final hurdle to securing his transfer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim world governing body FIFA have cleared the Sweden international to move to United on 1 July after resolving a complaint lodged by his current club Torino.

Jansson enjoyed a fantastic season-long loan at Elland Road and is now set to sign a three-year permanent deal with the Championship club, which was agreed at the beginning of February.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that there was the potential the £3.5million transfer could have fallen through after Torino lodged a formal complaint to FIFA over delayed payments from the Championship club.

But officials have confirmed that its investigation has been settled after Leeds moved to pay an initial instalment of the fee last month.

A FIFA spokesman is quoted as telling the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We can confirm that the parties have solved the matter.”

Leeds announced at the beginning of February that Jansson had agreed and signed a three-year contract and the details had all been finalised prior to Torino lodging their complaint.

The giant centre-back had a clause in his contract which stated he could the second-tier club permanently in the summer if he surpassed 22 appearances for them, something he did comfortably by playing 36 times.

Confirmation of the permanent signing of the defender will be regarded as a huge boost to supporters given how popular Jansson became during his debut campaign.

He played a major role in the club’s revival that culminated in a seventh-placed league finish after they challenged strongly for a play-off place.

The defender was included in the EFL Championship team of the year after striking up a formidable centre-back partnership with fellow loanee Kyle Bartley.
