Lewis Cook expressed his immense personal delight at winning the Under-20s World Cup – and Leeds United fans on Twitter were proud of the club’s academy product.
Skipper Cook led the England age-group team to their global triumph when they beat Venezuela 1-0 in South Korea on Saturday, courtesy of a goal from Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Elland Road academy product Cook had become the first player to captain an England side to World Cup victory since Bobby Moore in 1966 and he took to Twitter to explain how he felt.
“What an unbelievable feeling,” said Cook on his personal Twitter account on Sunday. “Champions of the world.”

Cook was a key figure for the England Under-2os side with his dynamic and energetic displays in a central midfield role, which was deeper than he played in many of his Leeds matches in 2o15-16.
Leeds fans expressed their delight at Cook’s success on Twitter, with many urging him to return to the club where he was reared before leaving last summer.

Cook quit Elland Road 12 months ago to join Bournemouth for a fee of around £6million.
He missed three months of his debut campaign for the Premier League club due to injury and then struggled for game time, although he did start three of the Cherries’ last four Premier League matches before the domestic campaign ended.
He is now looking to build upon his success with the national age-group side to play regularly for Eddie Howe’s side next season.
