Sheffield Wednesday suffered a cruel play-off defeat to Huddersfield on Wednesday night – and Leeds fans took the opportunity to mock their Yorkshire rivals on Twitter.
Huddersfield managed to book their place in the final at Wembley where they will face Reading, while for Wednesday it was a second consecutive year of disappointment in the play-offs.
The Owls lost in the final to Hull 12 months ago and this time were beaten on a penalty shootout in the semi-finals.
Carlos Carvalhal’s side had taken the lead through Steven Fletcher in the 51st minute, but Tom Lees scored an unfortunate own goal to take the tie to extra-time, before Huddersfield goalkeeper Danny Ward became the hero in the shootout.
Leeds fans expressed their delight at Wednesday’s failings and the two sets of supporters have been taunting each other all season as the promotion race took shape.

Leeds were left bitterly disappointed as they finished seventh in the league campaign and were the unfortunate team to miss out on the top-six places.
However, the Whites will be striving to put together another promotion run next year and will be looking forward to the highly anticipated games with Wednesday.
Garry Monk’s side managed to get the better of them this season and won both league meetings at both Elland Road and Hillsborough.
Leeds fans were quick to remind Wednesday of the maximum points they picked up over them during the campaign and have vowed to do the same again next year.
