Andrea Radrizzani has revealed to a reputable journalist that he was left disappointed with Leeds manager Garry Monk after their poor finish to the season.

BBC journalist Adam Pope admitted on his personal Twitter account on Thursday following a conversation with Radrizzani that the Leeds owner was ‘disappointed’ by their bad end to the season.

The revelation comes after Leeds had confirmed that they had ‘reluctantly accepted’ the resignation of Monk, after talks over an extended contract reached an impasse.

Monk was out of contract in the summer, but Leeds had moved to retain his services by exercising an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

But the resignation of the much-loved Elland Road figure came as a considerable shock, with a positive resolution to discussions having appeared so close.

After confirming the departure, the club revealed that Monk had told the United owner on Wednesday that he had little intention on discussing fresh terms with the club, and had set his sights on life beyond Leeds.

Monk was a big hit with the Leeds fans after leading them to the brink of promotion back to the Premier League during the 2016-17 season, only for a late decline in form to see them finish seventh in the Championship and miss out on the play-offs.

Leeds were fourth in the table on April 10, but they picked up just one win from their final eight league matches, a poor run of form which saw them drop to seventh.

It is that decline in form that left Radrizzani feeling disappointed with Monk’s performance, however, it was also revealed by Pope that it did not deter Radrizzani from his view that Monk was deserving of fresh terms.
