Leeds fans react to Monk resignation

|

Garry Monk has resigned from his post as Leeds manager – and fans on Twitter are disappointed at his decision.

The club announced on their official website on Thursday afternoon that his resignation had been reluctantly accepted by chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

Monk joined the Yorkshire outfit last summer and guided them to within five points of the play-off places in a season which brought back the belief amongst fans that a return to the Premier League was imminent.

The former Swansea boss was brought in by the club’s former owner Massimo Cellino, who gave Monk a one-year rolling contract last summer.

Italian Radrizzani completed his takeover of Leeds on Tuesday and he had the intention of exercising the club’s option to extend Monk’s contract by a further 12 months.

However, the statement reads that Monk was looking at life beyond the club as fans were bitterly disappointed with him leaving.

One fan believes that things were beginning to drop into the right place then Monk decides to resign as boss, while another felt that the club have made a huge mistake in allowing him to walk.

Added to that, another fan is fearful that ‘relegation seems imminent’ for the club as many supporters were clearly hurting at the news.

Monk worked wonders at Elland Road, changing the club’s fortunes around from Championship strugglers to promotion hopefuls.

The new season will begin in August and Leeds will now be on the lookout for a new manager.
