Monk priced 13/8 to be new Palace manager

Garry Monk has been installed as the second favourite to be the new manager of Crystal Palace, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet priced the 38-year-old at 13/8 on Thursday afternoon to succeed Sam Allardyce, who quit as Palace boss on Tuesday after steering them to Premier League safety.

Marco Silva, who left Hull City earlier in the week as the managerial merry-go-round got into full swing, is the narrow favourite at 6/5 to take over at Palace.

Both men are a long way ahead in the betting of equal favourites Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri, who is 6/1 after being sacked by Leicester City earlier this year.

Monk is also available after delivered his bombshell resignation to Leeds on Thursday morning.

Leeds announced on their official website on Thursday afternoon that Monk had resigned after making it clear he did not want to discuss a long-term contract with the club.

Monk’s current deal was due to end next week but Leeds had the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

The former Swansea manager has left Elland Road with his reputation enhanced after steering the club to a seventh-place Championship finish after taking over a team that had ended the season between 13th and 15th in each of the previous five years.
