Havard Nordtveit

According to reports from The Daily Star, manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed West Ham’s interest in signing Arsenal and Liverpool target Havard Nordtveit on a free transfer.

The Norway international spent three years at Arsenal before completing a transfer Borussia Monchengladbach in summer 2011, regularly captaining their reserves squad but failing to register a single appearance for the north Londoners at senior level.

The 25-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires at the end of the season and it was confirmed earlier this week that he will complete a free transfer to the Premier League in the summer.

Gladbach said in an official club statement; “Havard Nordtveit is leaving Borussia in the summer after five and half years. The Norwegian’s contract is expiring at the end of the season, with Borussia not prolonging it as he goes to England.”

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with a Bosman swoop for the Gladbach captain in recent weeks but some sources claim he has already agreed a transfer to West Ham, with the German club’s aforementioned statement coinciding with reports of the Hammers ‘finalising‘ a deal for the defensive midfielder.

Talking at the pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham’s visit to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, manager Slaven Bilic refused to confirm whether the East Londoners had secured Nordtveit’s signature but did admit the club’s interest in acquiring his services.

As quoted by The Daily Star, he said; “He is out of contract. Many clubs are interested in him – almost all of the Bundesliga want him to stay there because he is a great professional, great player and he is the captain of Borussia Monchengladbach.

“It is not only Bundesliga clubs but many clubs in England we have heard want him as well. We are also interested in him.”
