Havard Nordtveit

According to reports from The Daily Star, Arsenal have opened contract talks with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Havard Nordtveit.

The name will sound familiar to Gunners fans because the Norway international spent four years in the Emirates youth ranks, where he regularly captained Arsenal’s reserves team, before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in summer 2011.

The 25-year-old has made over 130 Bundesliga appearances for Gladbach whilst filling a variety of positions, including right-back, centre-half, defensive midfield and central midfield, and is attracting plenty of interest with his contract winding down.

Indeed, reports last month revealed Liverpool are keen to sign the versatile star on a free transfer and The Daily Star report that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to acquire his services this summer as well.

But citing German publication Bild, the British tabloid claim Arsenal have opened talks with their former starlet’s representatives to seal a summer transfer – with Arsene Wenger allegedly reluctant to see him leave north London five years ago.

Gladbach, however, are still hopeful of agreeing extended terms with Nordtveit.
