Ter Stegen

According to reports from Don Balon, Liverpool and Manchester City have both launched transfer bids for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

The 23-year-old is widely regarded as one of the top young goalkeepers in world football, earning a move to the Nou Camp in summer 2014 following three seasons of No.1 status at Borussia Monchengladbach.

He’s continued to impress with the Catalans but has found his participation limited almost exclusively to Copa del Rey and Champions League action, with team-mate Claudio Bravo filling the sticks for Barcelona’s La Liga outings.

That unusual situation has seen a host of clubs linked with the four-cap German international since the start of the season, not least including Liverpool – who reportedly saw an £11million bid rejected during the January transfer window.

Don Balon claim the Reds have now launched another bid worth £19million, but it has already been eclipsed by a superior offer from Premier League rivals Manchester City. Perhaps seeking a more dependable understudy to the hap-hazard Willy Caballero, they’ve allegedly tabled a £23.5million bid.

But according to the Spanish publication, Barcelona won’t look to cash-in on a starlet they initially acquired for just £9.7million unless he actively pushes for a departure from the Nou Camp. Despite occasional reports on the contrary, there is nothing substantial to suggest Ter Stegen is currently unhappy with his role in the Barca squad.
