According to reports from The Daily Star, Manchester United have turned their attentions to Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes after missing out on Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
It was revealed earlier this week that the Red Devils were targeting the highly-rated Mattress Makers youngster and in talks over a potential £18million deal. But according to The Daily Star, Vincente Calderon boss Diego Simeone is determined to hold onto the 21-year-old and will block any United deal from going through.
Accordingly, United have allegedly switched targets to prodigious Portugal international Andre Gomes, who impresssed on loan at Valencia last season – bagging four goals in 33 La Liga outings – and joined the Mestalla ranks permanently last summer.
The 22-year-old is currently being courted by Napoli and Juventus but agent Jorge Mendes – whose other clients include Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo – is pushing for an Old Trafford move instead.
The former Benfica youngster has been in decent form this season, notching up two goals and one assist in 12 La Liga appearances whilst recording an 82% pass completion rate.
