According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United are targeting Southampton starlet Jake Hesketh; whilst The Guardian report that Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet.

The Red Devils are currently undergoing a youth recruitment drive, amid fears that they’ve fallen behind local rivals Manchester City in English football’s academy pecking order, and Southampton’s Jake Hesketh is the latest home-grown prodigy to be resultantly linked with an Old Trafford switch.

The Daily Mail claim the Red Devils have been monitoring the attacking midfielder for a number of years and consider him a potential future Premier League star. Saints boss Ronald Koeman appears to agree, issuing the 19-year-old two top-flight outings last season. He now trains with Southampton’s first team on a regular basis.

The south coast outfit reportedly have no intention of selling Hesketh, however, and deny United have contacted them about his availability. The teenager’s contract expires in summer 2017.

Meanwhile, The Guardian report that Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Henri Saivet after reaching an agreement with Bordeaux believed to be worth around £4million.

The 25-year-old, who lifted the Ligue 1 title back in 2009, is primarily considered a winger-forward but has found great form as a central midfielder this season – netting twice in 18 league outings whilst averaging 3.8 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 1.4 successful dribbles per match.

Manager Steve McClaren confirmed earlier today that the Senegal international was on Tyneside for a medical, but the transfer hasn’t been made official just yet.
