According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Napoli have once again insisted potential suitors of Gonzalo Higuain must activate the striker’s £67m release clause.
The 27 year-old boasts a prolific return of 217 goals in 459 appearances throughout his spells with River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli and the Argentine national team – including 29 goals for Partenopei across all competitions last season – and famously came close to joining the Gunners in summer 2013.
He’s back on the Emirates radar as well as Manchester United’s following the Naples outfit’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, which has reportedly convinced the 6 foot 1 striker his immediate future lays elsewhere.
Earlier this week, Higuain is believed to have informed Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis that he wants to leave Serie A this summer.
But according to The Star, the Italian outfit have wasted no time in issuing yet another hands off warning – following similar demands made in June – and stressing any interested party must activate the former Bernabeu star’s £67million release clause.
“The club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of £67 million,” an official club statement read. “No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation.”
It follows recent quotes from Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, who said; “Higuain is a phenomenal player and that is why he is not for sale. He will remain at Napoli.”
Keep Higguins, I prefer REUS!!!
