Higuain

As reported by The Express yesterday morning, Arsenal have revived their interest in Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners came close to signing the Argentina international in summer 2013 as he sought pastures new from Real Madrid, leaving the Bernabeu with 120 goals in 264 appearances, but disputes over his eventual €40 million price-tag saw him move to Serie A instead.

Higuain’s gone on to bag 46 goals in 86 appearances for the Naples outfit, whilst remaining no stranger to the assists charts.

But The Express claim the 27 year-old will leave this summer if Napoli fail to attain Champions League football. They’re currently sixth in the Italian table and will have to close an eight-point gap on third-place Lazio in the remaining nine games to qualify for Europe’s top tournament.

Failure to do so will likely leave Napoli involved in the Europa League – a competition Higuain has allegedly told his employers he wants no part in next season.

Liverpool are also known admirers of the striker, as reported by The Metro in January, but also look set to miss out on the Champions League for 2015/16, leaving Arsenal’s interest relatively unopposed.
