Real end Arsenal and Man United’s hopes with key role for £45m man

Isco

According to reports from AS this morning, manager Rafa Benitez has assured midfielder Isco that he will have a ‘greater role’ at Real Madrid next season.

The Spain international registered 53 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos last term, including outings in the Champions League semi-final, to net on six occasions.

But with his place in the starting Xi largely dependent upon the fitness of Real Madrid’s more lucrative names – such as Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez – the 23 year-old was linked with a move away from the Bernabeu last month amid rumours of a bust up with former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

That lead to rumours of Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United considering summer bids around the £45million mark.

But Ancelotti’s successor, Rafa Benitez, has now almost certainly ended the possibility of a big-money move to England according to AS, assuring Isco that he’ll be given a significant role next season.

It follows reports from Goal.com earlier this month, who claim calling up the attacking midfielder to convince him to stay on at the Bernabeu was one of Benitez’ first actions as Real Madrid boss.

According to AS, the former Chelsea and Liverpool gaffer’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation will give Isco more starting opportunities.
